Ryuu's blurring eyes rested upon Arien's back. He looked at her for a few moments before it registered. "Arien, are those....whip marks?" He propped himself up on his arm, getting a better look.

Arien stiffened. She yanked the covers off the bed and wrapped them around herself. "No. Its nothing. You must be...er...really drunk." She moved further into the blankets. "I'm...tired. Night!" Her eyes never closed, mind didn't drift into another dream. She just sat there, praying that Ryuu wouldn't push further on the subject.

Ryuu hesistated, moving towards her slightly, and then dismissed it as a trick of the sake. He set the bottle down and turned over, falling asleep almost immediatly. It was a shame for Arien Ryuu snored madly when he was drunk.

Arien was close to throwing Ryuu out the window. Groaning, she grabbed a blanket and threw it over him. It muffled the sound, but didn't stop it. She sighed and walked to the window. Opening the shades, she realized that it was morning. An evil smirk came over her. She grabbed her pillow, silently walked over to Ryuu, and proceeded to beat him mercilessly with the thing. Feathers flew out of the age worn pillow. "Wakey wakey snoreMister."

Ryuu was enjoying a dream that involved him, a bottle of sake, and a room filled with giesha, when Arien began her assault. "Bwah!" He placed his hands in front of his face, trying to fend off the attack. Giving up on that method, he reached through the battering and grabbed Arien by the leg. With one swift movement, he pulled her to the ground.
He just hadn't known she'd fall on him.

Arien screamed and fell forward. And, unfortunately for her, she landed face first on Ryuu. She stood up abrubtly, her face flushed. "You....little..." She drew her hand back, and smacked him. Hard. "Never touch me again Ryuu." She turned her back to him and walked back to her bed.

"Arien!" Ryuu winced as his head pounded at the shout and the slap. "Arien, I didn't mean for that to...." he trailed off. Her back was to him, and now he could definately see the whip marks. "Arien. You have scars. Don't tell me you don't. I can see them. They look like...." he hesitated. "whip marks."

Arien stiffened, clenching her hands into fists once more. "They're nothing." Nothing, yea right. Who are you trying to kid?

"Nothing." He moved foward towards her. A part of him told him to run away, while another told him to trace the marks. He did neither. "This isn't nothing, Arien. You were whipped." His voice was soft, as if he was trying to hold some emotion back. "What happened?"

Still, she wouldn't face him. Her voice became quiet also, she was trying so hard not to cry. "You know how I told you I lived with my grandparents? Well, they made me do everything. House work, cooking, cleaning, everything. To them, I was a mistake." She moved closer to the door, rubbing her shoulder. "I was trying to get the cat, and, it kept jumping away. It jumped far enough to hit one of my Grandmother's vases. It fell over and I got scared. So I tried to hide. My Grandfather found me and he..." She bit her lip. "He whipped me. Said I was a liar. And lucky that they took me in." Her eyes blurred. "His lashings became more frequent. Everytimehe got mad, or drunk, he would whip me." She turned around, her hair whipping behind. "So there, now you know! I'm not all taht perfect. Not even close."

Ryuu remained quiet for a long moment. "He got careless," he said, his eyes on the ground. "Your tormentor was careless. That doesn't make you flawed. It doesn't make you inferior. It makes you human. It means it's his fault." Ryuu quieted down now, his face hidden in shadow.

Arien brushed her hair out of her eyes. "Yea, well he's not the one with scars on his freakin' back." Gaze traveled to Ryuu, who seemed to be troubled. "Ryuu....something the matter?" She walked forward cautiously, laying her hand on his shoulder.

Ryuu didn't look up at her. "Tell me. How flawed do you think you are? Do you hate the whip marks? Do you hate the man who tortured you? Do you hate your past?"

"I..." Arien stopped. She didn't know. She didn't know if she hated her Grandfather, if she hated the marks. "I don't hate." Her hand on his shoulder tightened. "I'm afraid." Hair fell in her face, as she dipped her head. "And your no different. Do you think I didn't notice something was wrong?" She laughed hollowly.

Ryuu looked at her, startled. A scowl appeared on his face. "Oh, I'm different, Arien. I'm much different." He opened his kimono and slid it off of his shoulders, leaving himself shirtless. The morning sun illuminated what the dull moonlight in the forest had not. All over his chest, back, shoulders, and upper arms, he was striped with red laces, obviously those from a torturous whipping years ago. A few of the marks went almost to the bone, even after all these years. His entire back and front looked as if he had been striped hundreds of times.
"I am much different from you, Arien," Ryuu repeated, watching her steadily. "I was a slave."
